Topeka's utility bill vendor hit

The city of Topeka, the capital of Kansas, has warned up to 10,000 citizens that between October 31 and December 1st their personal information may have been compromised.  The city claims that they were notified on Friday that Central Square, the city’s utility bill payment system vendor, had encountered a possible cyber-attack.  The victims would have been from two different categories: 1) they made one-time payments, or 2) they setup auto-pay sometime between the end of October and first day of December.  Those who may be exempt from the risk would have been persons that setup autopay prior to October 31st or who use e-checking.

The city will encourage those affected to contact their banks and credit card companies.
