DHHS settles with WellPoint for $1.7M
On July 11, 2013, The US Dept of Health & Human Services (DHHS) announced a $1.7M settlement agreement with insurer WellPoint Inc. The settlement is in regards to the approximately 612,400 individuals exposed to unauthorized availability of HIPAA related PII between October 2009 and March 2010. WellPoint is an Indiana based health care insurer of over 65M people.
